Anyone can enjoy a nice bottle of vino, but not everyone is familiar with the terms that we wine nerds like to use when writing tasting notes
Nose – what you smell when you stick your schnoz in the wine glass and take a whiff
Attack – the first flavors that hit your taste buds when you take that sip of wine
Midpalate – second wave of tastes, when wine is in the middle of your mouth
Finish – the aftertaste. Can quickly die, or linger.
Heat – usually prevalent when wine has a higher alcohol content
Tannin – found on the skin and stem of grapes, also comes from the barrels. Makes your mouth pucker a bit, gives those big red wines their backbone
